He graduates at SPID (Italian Professional Dance School) in Milan, completing his training in contemporary dance at Merce Cunningham Dance Company (New York) and with major companies and choreographers of the Italian and North Europe dance scene.

He dances for the company Leggere Strutture (Bologna - Italy); he takes part in big productions such as Dracula opera rock, and Tosca, amore disperato produced by David Zard. He collaborates with the dancer and director Caroline Bo in Marseille. He is selected as dancer for Orfeo ed Euridice, directed by Graham Vick and choreographed by Ron Howell, which he performs in major Italian theatres.

He is selected by Mario Piazza to dance the role of Franz in the contemporary version of Coppelia, and, with the same company, he dances in productions such as Carmina Burana, Les Noces and K2007.He works as dancer and choreographer for DES.company – Lugano in the production Final Fight. In Milan, he dances in many productions at the Nohma Theater and he dances for the company Corpi Mobili in the production Le donne, la guerra e l’amore; with the same company, he dances for the composer Ludovico Einaudi.

He takes part to “Oriente Occidente Festival”, where he receives the critics' award by Elisa Guzzo Vaccarino for the 2009 edition as the best dancer.He ranks among the top five European finalists with his choreography Cuori Imperfetti in the competition “Cercasi Coreografi" organized by WDA Europe in cooperation with IT / UNESCO. In the same year he presents the complete performance at the Teatro Studio Foce in Lugano (Ch).Since 2009, he has dedicated himself to the training of young talents in contemporary dance, holding workshops and seminars in Italy, Switzerland and Austria. He works as a choreographer for independent projects, companies and international events and collaborates with the Singapore University, creating performances and teaching contemporary dance.

From September 2011, he founds and is Artistic Director of Milan City Ballet dance school in Milano. In the same year he becomes Vice President of the cultural association “PANDANZ”, founded by Virginia Spallarossa. Together they organize the contemporary dance festival "Pillole – somministrazioni di danza d’autore” in Milan.He is guest teacher in the dance school of the Wiener Staatsoper for “Ballet Days Festival” in all the editions, from 2013 on.He is choreographer for events such as “Salone Internazionale del Mobile” and “Milano Fashion Week” and he collaborates with important national newspapers such as Vanity Fair and La Repubblica.

He founds Milano Contemporary Ballet, which works in collaboration with the company Studio Wayne McGregor (London), re-staging the performances Entity, FAR and Polar Sequences. He creates the performances CONNECTIONS, Cenerentola, CHRONOS and TREdiTRE, the last selected for different festivals, among which IDACO, ITalian DAnce COnnections, New York.

Roberto Altamura is currently Artistic director of Milano City Ballet school and Milano Contemporary Ballet dance company.His choreographies HUMAN BEING and TWICE, performances created with Vittoria Brancadoro, are invited at the festival IDACO, New York, in #140danzadautore in Milan, adn in the dance platform WHAT WE ARE of Udine (IT). In november, Roberto Altamura premieres with Vittoria Brancadoro and Loretta D’Antuono with the performance EDEN, at EcoTeatro (Milano).
